Прежде чем выпустить свою первую книгу "A Hundred Summers A Hundred
Winters”, Бертин Ван Манен проехала по всей территории бывшего СССР и
фотографировала повседневную жизнь людей более трех лет.
”Путешествовать в то время с дорогими Leica и Nikon было небезопасно”,
рассказывает она, "Они считали мои камеры игрушками… и не боялись их,
считали меня туристкой или подругой, которая просто любила
фотографировать”. То, что на первый взгляд может показаться грубыми
ошибками и недостатком качества в снимках (засвеченные края, неточная
фокусировка или засветка от вспышки), на самом деле дает представление о
желании Манен "схватить” момент, запечатлеть, не упустить то, что
происходит перед ней.
